It wasn't the area where I'd put all this pressure on myself for so many years, so I could actually learn a new skill. Writing is really something I came to later, because it was Broadway star all the way. And the only way to get beyond arch- goofiness is song and dance. It's the old adage about musicals: I can no longer express myself this way, I have to sing.
